This school year, ‘The Brook Hill School’ introduced a block in the schedule for Middle School clubs. Ally Koenig, a seventh grader, teamed up with Mrs. Bell to form ‘The Middle School Book Club’.
When asked about why she agreed to sponsor the book club, Mrs. Bell said, “I have always had a passion for reading so it’s fun for me to get to share it with other avid readers.”
The club’s seven members agreed on the book ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth. In the novel the main characters are set in a post-apocalyptic city where citizens are divided into five different groups depending on certain virtues. Students took a quiz to see what faction they would be sorted into.
“You take a series of questions and based on the results you get sorted into a faction. If you have more than one result you are divergent.” said Justin Powell, a book club member.
This afternoon the book club will attend the premier of the film adaptation of ‘Divergent’. Students will dress in the specific clothes worn by the faction they were grouped into based off the quiz they took. The club may also have a “Faction Day” to dress up at school in the weeks following S.P.A.R.C.
