On February 8, the Sochi Winter Olympics kicked off, but the Opening Ceremony will be Friday, February 9.
There is a lot of controversy behind this particular Olympics because of the terrorist threat surrounding Russia. There is a lot of hype surrounding Shaun White since he skipped the most recent Winter X-Games. He also pulled out of the first ever Slope Style snowboarding event to focus on trying to win his third consecutive Gold Medal in the Half-Pipe Event.
Yesterday, the Olympics began with the team figure skating. The Russian pair and their solo skater, Evgeni Plushenko, had an impressive display and are the clear leaders at this point in the competition.
Also, Snowboard Men’s Slopestyle Qualifications started yesterday and Women’s Moguls Qualifications.
I will continue to post updates about the 2014 Sochi Olympics as they continue on for the month of February. They conclude on February 23.
