The Guard suited up against Fort Worth Christian on Friday, October 15, for its first playoff game. The Guard came ready to play, but they would have to play their hearts out to get the win. Sadly, the Guard lost in overtime to the Cardinals.
In the first quarter, the Guard was winning 13-7. Gabe Lucio scored the first touchdown and the second one was a pass from Grant Hanks to Seth Brasher.
The score remained the same all the way until the fourth quarter when the Cardinals went up 13-14 against the Guard. The Cardinals then scored again, extending their lead to 13-21. Then Gabe Lucio scored the final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter. The Guard went for a two-point conversion in an effort to tie the game. Jacob Dumesnil came through with the catch, bringing the score to 21-21, and overtime.
In overtime, the Guard could not put any points on the board. The Cardinals countered and scored a touchdown, ending the game with a score of 21-26. The Guard was knocked out of the playoffs and that ended their season.
Despite the tough loss, there were some highlights worth noting. Grant Hanks had 180 passing yards on the night. Seth Brasher had four catches for 128 yards. Then finally, Gabe Lucio ended the night with 54 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
