The countdown until Lady Guard soccer season has begun! On October 28th, the Lady Guard soccer team will begin practicing. The anticipation is high because last year, the Lady Guard won the 2013 State Championship in just their third year of having a team.

The players are really excited to begin practicing, obviously wanting to have a repeat state championship. This is a real possibility because the Lady Guard only graduated one senior, Kirby Vinson, so the team will be full of returning players, including seven returning seniors.

Last year was a whirlwind of emotions and struggles, but the Lady Guard overcame it and won. They beat two-time reigning State Champ, Colleyville Covenant, 3-0 on March 9, 2013 for the championship.

The team is focused and knows what their main goal is. They will be hard at work practicing until the district season starts in January and their schedule will include a couple of preseason games in December against other private schools in East Texas, such as Grace, Gorman, and All Saints.

The Guard hopes to avoid injury and adversity as much as possible and stay focused under the coaching of head coach, David Collins, and assistant coach, Jordan Roquemore. Coach Collins is very experienced and used to be the women’s coach at East Texas Baptist University before he came to Brook Hill. He is really passionate about the game of soccer and a great coach/mentor. Last year was his first time to win a state championship as a head coach. When the season was almost over, he was named the District Coach of the Year for both the boys and girls team. He also was named the NSCAA Coach of the Year for all private schools in the state of Texas! He is married to Christi Collins and has two sons, Caleb and Josh.

Coach Roquemore is in his second year of teaching at Brook Hill and his second year as an assistant coach. He went to McPherson College and he is married to Kimberly Roquemore.

All eyes will be on the Lady Guard as they begin practice next week in preparation for the upcoming year. They are ready!
